Regret - Embrace the Reality

(v) a feeling of sadness, repentant, or disappointment over something that has happened or been done, especially a loss or missed opportunity. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

Living in a modern world with a philosophy built in our system, “Live Without Regrets. ” As alluring as it may sound but it is not always as easy as boiling water on a stove. We regret choosing a second-class or terrible decision instead of the better one. We regret things that we could have said properly to the person instead of lashing out. We regret not telling someone “I love you ” before they passed away. We regret missed opportunities, procrastinating rather than forming productive habits, unable to finish reading the book, or watch the series we planned to finish before the summer ends, not mastering languages or a sport and martial arts.

And yes, these regrets can consume the whole of us. These regrets that we are still mourning, which are already in the past and cannot be changed anymore no matter what we do. We regret, for the reason of this formed ideal in our mind that we keep comparing the unchangeable choices we made to these ideals we have. Fantasy- a world we made wherein perfection of making choices exists yet in reality none of these exists. There are no perfect choices but practical. Though you chose the second choice instead of the first, there is no assurance it will make your life better.

Withdraw yourself from this fantasy on how you'd like reality to go. Let go of these ideals you have and embrace the reality. Let's be satisfied with the choices we made, see the “good enough” rather than always hoping and expecting perfection because it doesn't exist. Embrace the reality of we make mistakes, we do good and bad things, we tell the truth and lie at the same time, we love and hate, like and dislike.

Regrets are part of our life, whether we like to have it or not, it's there- it exists. But embracing reality instead of fantasy, we learn how to be satisfied and see the “good enough” with our life choices. We don't dwell on our past choices, and we are happy in our present life. A life solution you will never rue.
