September 21, 2020 (Monday, MGCQ) Dear Diary, Today is the 12th day of homeschooling for my seven-year-old son. He woke up at 10 am today, made the bed, had his brunch, and washed our dishes. My son then volunteered to start our homeschooling session right away at 11 am and pick up where we left off yesterday. I let him start his computer and practice his Filipino self-introduction for an hour before we spent half an hour with pagbabaybay. He said that he is having more difficulty with Filipino as compared to English. After finally finishing Filipino in 1.5 hours, I asked him to tell me today’s day and date. He was clueless while I was disappointed. I realized we have to review the usage of the calendar. Then I thought to ask him about the time and found that he also already forgot how to tell the time. However, I noticed that even if he forgot how to tell time, he knew how to look at the clock in order to tell time! I used that as a comparison for reminding him how to tell the date and where to look to avoid guessing the date. He finally deduced from my clues that he has to check the calendar! He successfully told me the exact day and date today after spending 20 minutes familiarizing himself with the calendar again. We went on to review all about the calendar and he was able to tell about the days of the week, the names of each day of the week, what comes before any given day, and what comes after any given day. As I was folding our clothes during the calendar review, it got his attention and he asked if he could help me out. Since I was aiming to make this child-driven, I decided to teach him how to fold his own clothes and why we do it the way we do. After 35 minutes of folding clothes, he asked for a break. I decided to end our homeschooling session for today and let him play with his toys as he wished. I still have a lot of other things to do so I figured that I should instead do them and just let him enjoy the rest of the day. We were able to review one homeschool days’ worth of lessons today. Tomorrow, we will resume from the third homeschool day’s Civics subject before we proceed to the fourth homeschool day’s lessons. That’s it for our 12th day! Looking forward to the 13th!
