In a job interview, the first question or statement is often, "Tell me about yourself". From here, the interviewer will have his/her first impression on you. Your confidence and posture, the way you speak and present yourself -- it will all reflect through that one statement. If you failed this, the chances of not being accepted to the job you desire is high.
So today, let us talk about the "Elevator Pitch".
The elevator pitch or also known as the elevator speech is all about a quick summary of yourself. It contains your background and experiences. So why is it called the elevator speech? The reason it's called an elevator pitch is that it should be short enough to present during a brief elevator ride.
Your elevator pitch is a way to share your expertise and credentials quickly and effectively with people who don't know you.
How to write an elevator pitch?
First things first, your elevator pitch should answer the following questions: Who are you? What do you do? What do you want?
1. Start by introducing yourself.
Always start it with your full name, smile, extend your hand for a handshake and add a pleasantry like, "It's nice to meet you!".
2. Provide a summary of what you do.
Here, you'll give a summary of our background. As much as possible, you should include only the most relevant information like your education, work experience and/or any key specialties or strengths.
3. Finishing your elevator pitch.
You should end your elevator pitch by asking for what you happen next. If you feel an elevator pitch is appropriate for a certain situation, begin with the goal of gaining a new insight or next steps. Examples can include asking for a meeting, expressing interest in a job, confirming you've fully answered an interview question, or asking someone to be your mentor.
