Self-Respect Can Eliminate Jealousy?

Jealousy occurs when people determine their personal value or worth only in terms of external accomplishments. The achievement of external accomplishments is highly dependent on external circumstances such as luck. Thus rather than seeing the success of the other as due to ability and hard work, the jealous person convinces him/herself that the success of the other is unjustified. Rather than focusing personal efforts on achieving their own goals, the jealous person wastes time and effort by obsessing over the accomplishments of others.
To achieve and maintain self-respect, the individual must focus on what is truly needed, what is truly desired by, and for the individual's life. With self-respect, there can be no time for or interest in thinking about the successes of the others. Jealousy will wither away leaving everyone happier.
