The City of Batangas in the Philippines has been hailed the World’s Most Loved City by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) We Love Cities (WLC) campaign.

Batangas was chosen as the Most Loved and Sustainable City in the World via video announcement on October 30, 2020, besting over 54 cities from 26 countries who participated in the WWF search which encouraged citizens to vote and show what they love about their cities. The WLC campaign recognizes cities around the globe who practice sustainable methods that lead the way to a climate-friendly and greener future.

WWF cites Batangas’ aim to be the very first carbon-neutral city in the Philippines by the year 2030. To realize this vision, the city of Batangas has developed a “comprehensive climate mitigation and adaptation plan” and is currently investing in methods to harvest rainwater from rooftops, constructing sea walls, exploring ways to make the city more self-sufficient for its food supply, and installing solar power throughout the area, among other efforts.

WWF is the world’s leading nature conservation organization and is dedicated to respecting the ecological limits of the planet. Over 1,170,000 votes were received from participating cities for the WLC campaign this year, says WWF – Philippines.

Batangas City was among the WWF global finalists in 2019 and was declared the national winner of its One Planet City Challenge (OPCC).

The City of Batangas is world-famous for its dive spots, which has reopened to tourists amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
