New Look For The "New Normal"

Since classes has been suspended for months, A lot of us got really bored and have done crazy things just to kill boredom. I know you did too, Don’t deny it! Because I have too. And one of those things is dying my hair in different colors. I have a complicated kind of love-hate relationship with my hair, Where some days it makes me look pretty, and some days It makes me look like I haven’t taken a bath yet when I actually did. Recently that relationship became worst. After being excited of changing my hair color after every week, My hair turned into a total disaster. My hair is still recovering from the harm I’ve done.
Now, The reason why I did it was because I like to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. Plus, this was my chance to having a whole new different look without anyone preventing me. Yeah it was all fun and felt great that I almost forgot I was feeding my hair too much chemicals. So since I have experienced this thing, I would like to share few things I’ve learnt during this quarantine hair adventure.
Here are some few things you should consider before dying your hair:
Will it damage your hair?
Hair bleaching is a must, It contains chemicals, So does the hair color (cream) and the developer. Developer is used to mix in with the cream before applying it on your hair, But in order to achieve the color you desire, You must first use bleach if you are not naturally blonde, or if you got a dark hair color like me.
So yes, It might damage your hair but, these guides below will help you get that new hair color for your new look in this so called “New normal” state without damaging your hair and looking like a rag doll that has not been used for years.
•	Bleaching your hair is likely to be uncomfortable.
•	Before applying bleach use coconut oil and spread it starting in your roots.
•	You can leave it for an hour before applying the bleach, no need to wash off the coconut oil.
•	Always do a patch test first.
•	If you are a first timer don’t use a higher percentage of a developer, You should take it slowly first.
•	The higher the percentage of a developer, the brighter it is but, It also contains more chemicals than the lower percentage.
•	I rather have you rest your hair (for hours or a day) after bleaching before applying the desired color.
•	Now, If you plan on changing your hair color again, You should wait for atleast a month so that your hair can still breathe from the chemicals it absorbed.
•	Though there are new products called “Organic” Hair dyes or “Natural” Hair colors, It’s still important to always have an aftercare routine, Know that with a proper understanding, preparedness, and acceptance, hair coloring can be a truly transformative experience.
•	Aftercare products will be your bestfriend in this journey. Products you can use are virgin coconut oil, keratin conditioner, color preserving shampoos and conditioners, hair supplements, etc.

Don’t let this chance slip away! Now go get yourself a new look! They say that dying your hair also helps reduce anxiety, As a person suffering from anxiety I can tell that yes, It really is. Been there, done that! So I hope that this article will be helpful on your future hair adventures during this quarantine period.

And please, Always do remind yourself,
No matter the color of your hair or skin, We are always beautiful in different ways and aspects, Choose self-love over self-judgement!
