My Son Cooked Rice For The First Time (Our Homeschooling Journey Day 11)

September 20, 2020 (Sunday, Family Day)

Dear Diary,

We took a break after we completed 10 days. He went to the farm on August 11, took his two-part Long Quiz on August 12 - 13, took a rest from August 14 - September 19; and we're back today! It’s been more than a month now - 38 days to be exact.

There were many reasons for this hiatus:
- My aunt (my father’s sister), who has lived with us during her senior years, died on August 19 due to old age and we held the wake or about a week.
- My son got bitten by a dog in the farm on August 31 and we made sure he had his first three (3) vaccine shots.
- Our family got sick one by one (my husband, then I, then our son).

Today is the eleventh day of homeschooling for my seven-year-old son. He woke up at 7 am but we started at 9:50 pm since there’s just so much to do at the house today. As usual, he made the bed and washed our dishes today. My son then played Roblox to his heart’s content and took a nap with us at 2 pm then woke up at 8 pm. He has so much energy left for tonight and what better way to use it than to study!

Instead of using what I had prepared more than a month ago as a lesson plan for today, I decided to review his past lessons with him to check for retention and refresh his memory. He already forgot about the UPS and was happy to remember about it today. I am also glad to have reviewed his computer lessons today. That is because I realized that I need to point out to him the difference between logging off and shutting down - the computer being on or off.

His spelling score went from 60% to 83.33% correctly spelled words during our review today. He was also able to perform his self-introduction again in both English and Filipino wherein he found English to be easy but Filipino to be difficult.

In the end, we were able to review two homeschool days’ worth of lessons today. He was also able to learn something new today: cooking his first rice batch for our supper! He was so proud of it that he kept on talking about it for an hour over dinner and even asked it to be posted on his FB account.

Tomorrow, we will resume from the second homeschool day’s Filipino subject (pagpapakilala ng sarili at pagbabaybay) before we proceed to the third homeschool day’s lessons. That's it for our eleventh day! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we can follow-through with our homeschooling resumption tomorrow and onwards.
