A kid plays slingshot at the playground in the late afternoon, pulling the rock further back. As he aims north, the kid releases the rock. Imagine yourself as the rock being pulled back from your chosen direction yet drawn near to God.

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their footsteps.

God decides where we will go like how the kid decides where to aim. God pulls us back from nearby plans to be closer to Him for the greater good. Once we get close to Him and far from our own desires, He propels us further forward towards something exceptional for us.
