Akon, Glan, Sarangani Province; a hidden sanctuary of peace and inviting nature. It was my first time going on a mountain hike with my family and i never expected to find such breathtaking scenery. It was really a expectation versus reality, but it was kind of different than the usual, it exceeded my expectation. Along the way, we’ve met several b’laans (native people) who have helped us during the hike and taught us the direction. We went hiking for several minutes before arriving at the destination. It was not that easy however, it was worth the sweat and effort. We could smell the fresh scent of nature clinging as we breathe. It was therapeutic, both in mental and physical aspect. At the top, we could clearly see the parts of Akon. So as the b’laan talked about how the place progressed, childhood memories that was planted in the very soil of the land, and their culture- all of it spoke of who they are. We walked down and went to the river (sapa) and rode a traditional river boat. It was refreshing, very relaxing. It was all worth it. A place to die for. I’ll definitely go back to this hidden paradise.
