The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially approved the clinical trial of Five-leaved Chaste Tree, also known as "Lagundi" to use as supplemental treatment for COVID-19 in the Philippines. The medical research will be managed by experts from Philippine General Hospital and will begin to be used for patients in the three quarantine centers in the country- Quezon Institute Quarantine Center, Sta. Ana Hospital, and Philippine National Police- National Capital Region Community Quarantine Centers. Secretary Fortunate Dela Pena, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said that this would address the symptoms such as cough, fever and sore throat. "Ang hangad natin diyan ay ma-address yung mga symptoms tulad ng ubo, lagnat, at sore throat, Kasi malaking bagay kung giginhawa ang ating pasyente." Meanwhile, Lagundi is one of the medicinal plants approved by the Department of Health (DOH) in the Philippines for it shown wide array of biological activities such as anti-malarial activity, antioxidant, antifungal and antiviral properties which helps in different respiratory infections.
