When I was still a student, Teachers we’re having difficulty engaging with students. Maybe because the usual curriculum doesn’t build on communication and collaboration skills or promote critical thinking and problem-solving. So, they would feel as the students are passive participants in the learning process. Now as I practice my teaching skills, sometimes I can’t get my students learn higher-order thinking skills and problem solving. But it all changed when constructivism was introduced to us. And it helped transform our teaching so that students are actively engaged with problem-solving in meaningful contexts. Simplified, it is learning with creating meaning from experience. Just like in my report before, Piaget said “learning is more meaningful when they are able to interact with a problem or concept which can help engage and motivate my students by making them take a more active role in the learning process. It helped me a lot because it utilizes interactive teaching that help also the students construct knowledge based on their experiences. As a Future Educator, I must decide how to actively engage my students in the topic and utilize the idea of problem-based learning by challenging them to answer a real-world problem and situations. So, if you’re wanting to build problem solvers and critical thinkers then you can use constructivism to solve your problems.
