The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has authorized medical schools to admit students who have not taken the National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) following the test postponement.

The CHED said this is subject to the medical schools’ regular admission requirements and only for Academic Year 2020-201 because the Center for Educational Measurement (CEM) failed to administer the NMAT last March due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

“The Commission, in its en banc meeting on June 30, 2020, responded to the call of many students who want to pursue their medical education but were not able to take the NMAT which is required for admission to medical school due to the current health crisis,” CHED chairman J. Prospero de Vera III said.

WHAT IS NMAT?
The National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) in Philippines is a national level examination pre-requisite by the applicant for entry to any medical school in the Philippines. In other words, the National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) is a tool designed to improve and advance the selection process of applicants seeking admission in any Philippine medical school.

This exam is conducted twice every year, i.e. early in the year or late in the year The testing dates, local and abroad, are decided and announced by the CHED and CEM. Medical Universities in Philippines also offer tutorials for International students to assist them to pass the NMAT test without any difficulty.

WHY IS NMAT REQUIRED in Philippines ?
NMAT was developed from a constant concern so as to screen competent and capable candidates who are aspiring for a medical degree. The purpose of this exam was to improve the quality of medical education in Philippines which would promote the medical profession to a complete new level of proficiency after evaluating their potential which is necessary in the successful pursuit of medical education.

The NMAT scores achieved by a medical student/applicant give sufficient and valid information by carefully evaluating him before giving admission to any medical college. In order to get admission in the best medical colleges in Philippines, the students are motivated and encouraged to do well in NMAT test which further helps them in achieving the best possible score

WHAT IS REQUIREMENT FOR NMAT?

The NMAT scores obtained by a medical school applicant at any given examination year are deemed sufficient and valid as basis for evaluating applicants for admission to a college of medicine. The applicant is encouraged to do well in the test and obtain his/her best scores in the NMAT to increase his/her chances of being accepted in the best medical schools in the Philippines.
