99th Day: How Much Did I Lose?

It has been 99 days since I started making myself better. Like all the other days, I woke up with a feeling of working hard for the glow up that I've always dream of. I weighed 78 kilograms (171 lbs) and had been on the plus size category since birth. So, when I first had the urge to lose weight, I was rather hesitant because I always go through the same phase: want to lose weight, work out, then I lose interest. Also, what if I won't feel like doing it the next day so I just wasted my time doing it today. However, when the quarantine started, I found myself unoccupied and bored. I began thinking of making the most out of the free time in my hands. With that being said, on May 1 (which I think is a very good day to start because it's one), I set off to my journey of finally getting the healthy body and lifestyle that I've always wanted.

The first 30 days was full of complaining. I just can't wait to lose the proof of all the junks I've been feeding my body since time immemorial. After every workout session, I would run to my mom and ask her if there are any changes or if I already lost weight. Even now, 99 days later, I would still ask her. In a way, I would always find her answer comforting than the number on the weighing scale and measuring tape.

Aside from exercising (which I do at home because gyms are close because of quarantine), I've tried being a vegetarian for two weeks. As much as I want to brag that my family is very supportive in this journey, my mom, however, would always ask me to cook them meat dish; there's no way I could say no. So after two weeks, instead of going all out on vegan, I switched to low carb (with occasional meat and no rice) diet. I've also cut off sugar, soda and coffee (I hate black coffee so I leaned to green tea).

I guess all the hard work paid off because today, on my 99th day, I lost 19 kilograms (41 lbs). My waist line which was 34 inches (since I was in high school) is now 29 inches. My collarbone which I haven't seen a glimpse of since forever is now visible. I'm still 153 cm in height but I feel taller.

Needless to say, this journey has been life changing for me. I have never experienced being skinny or fit but now, I feel like I'm so close to my weight goal. It took me 15 years to finally have the will to turn my life around. The 99th day is not the beginning nor the ending but only an episode to the series of life changing events in my life.

If you want something, you should work hard for it. Only then you will appreciate the immense progress and satisfaction you will receive from it. So, for anyone who wants to lose weight, stay fit and have a healthy lifestyle, any day is a good day to start.
