Aprilia holds surprise launch of RS 660 in US

Aprilia has officially taken the wraps off its new sport bike, the RS 660. Unveiled in the US, it is now available for pre-order in the both the US and Europe. As part of its surprise début, Aprilia also unveiled the motorcycle in a brand new color, Acid Gold.
The Aprilia RS 660 has been anxiously awaited since its first appearance as a concept in November 2018. It was envisioned to brings back the everyday pleasure and fun of a full-fairing sport bike with a semi-handlebar that exploits the dynamic qualities of perfect chassis architecture, combined with the exuberant performance of an entirely new parallel twin-cylinder and the Aprilia active electronic controls package which sets the bar on a global level.
It’s powered by a 660cc parallel-twin derived from the front bank of the 1100 cc V4. Despite being only half of a V4, it produces 101 Ps (100 Hp) of power. Helping achieve its goal of being lightweight yet formidable, the front suspension features an adjustable upside-down Kayaba (KYB) fork with 41 mm stanchions. It has a pair of 320 mm steel discs, a pair of radial calipers and a radial cylinder, all by Brembo. Behind is an aluminum asymmetric swingarm which pivots directly from the load-bearing engine. The rear shock uses a linkage-free design. It tips the scales at just 183 kg.

It also has an extensive list of rider aids from traction control, wheelie control, cruise control, quick shift, engine brake, and engine mapping. There are 5 riding modes in addition to various settings for traction, wheelie, and engine braking. Finally, it also has cornering ABS as standard.

These settings can be seen on the full-color TFT screen that includes the Aprilia MIA, which is a multimedia platform that allows smartphone connectivity and control through an Aprilia motorcycle. A navigation function is also included that allows the rider to view directions directly on the instrument cluster after having set a journey destination on the smartphone.

The new RS 660 will be offered in three liveries: acid gold, black and red, and the Reggiani Replica, which is a tribute to the 1994 RS250 championship motorcycle.
